At the annual conference of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) in San Diego, Professor Albert Heck from Utrecht University was awarded the Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry Award in recognition of his groundbreaking research on viruses and other complex biological systems.
Named after Nobel Prize winner John B. Fenn, the award recognizes the groundbreaking impact of his development of electrospray ionization, a discovery that revolutionized mass spectrometry and paved the way for modern biomolecular mass analysis. Since its establishment in 1990, it has been regarded as the most prestigious award in the field of mass spectrometry.
